In a bold gesture embracing a burgeoning industry, The Dutch Consulate in San Francisco opens its doors to videogames. Called INDIGO, 20 game developers from the Netherlands will show their best titles to an international audience of fellow developers, investors, publishers and gamers. The event is scheduled to coincide with the nearby Game Developers Conference (GDC) in the Moscone Center and runs from March 25th till the 30th. Entry is free of charge.

INDIGO is organized by Dutch Game Garden, a foundation in the Netherlands aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in the Dutch games industry. “The Netherlands itself only has a handful of publishers, but in San Francisco during GDC there’ll be hundreds, all looking for great new games,” says JP van Seventer, Development Director of Dutch Game Garden. “INDIGO enables us to promote a large number of developers  from our country all at once. Among them are indies, entertainment game developers and creators of top notch applied games. Their titles are all lined up and presented in a stylish way. The game developers meet fellow devs from around the world, investors and potential creative and business partners.”
Dutch Game Garden has organized INDIGO multiple times in the Netherlands over the last few years. This year however, is the first time the event will take place in the United States, thanks to the hospitality of the Dutch Consulate. The full address is: The Netherlands Consulate General, 120 Kearny Street, Suite 3100, San Francisco, CA 94104. See how to get there from the Moscone Center. Doors open Monday evening, 25 March until Saturday, 30 March. In the next few days, check our INDIGO page

Growing market

The games industry in the Netherlands is growing rapidly. This small country boasts more than 300 companies involved in game development, employing more than 3,000 people. The Games Monitor, a report published last year, states the Dutch games industry generates between 150 and 225 million Euros each year. (195-293 million USD)

Sponsors and partners

Dutch Game Garden is able to organize INDIGO in San Francisco thanks to a generous sponsorship from the Level Up! Program. Level Up! is aimed at present and future talent within the Dutch games industry. INDIGO creates exposure and visibility for this target audience during an internationally renowned event and creates opportunities for Dutch developers going abroad.
The presentation of the games is made possible by the Netherlands Consulate General in San Francisco, Invest Utrecht, Utrecht School of the Arts, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research TNO, games companies Codeglue, XForm and IJsfontein, and Control, the Dutch games industry magazine.
