Over the course of the last year, Dutch Game Garden, the Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUAS), and the Dutch Games Association have worked together on a research report detailing the driving key factors for the survival of game start-ups.

In order to gather all the needed data, we have facilitated multiple strategy days wherein we interviewed twenty different game companies. These interviews centred around four different topics, that each highlighted important factors influencing the lifespan of a new company. These interviews were uploaded as a series of five panel videos onto the DGG youtube channel.

Through this approach, it was possible to identify multiple different key factors of change, and the drivers of those changes. This result will be able to help both future researchers interested in doing a quantitative survey analysis, and starting game studios, by creating awareness of the ever shifting market.

You can find the full report and a more detailed summary on our project page.
