Dutch Game Awards

The Dutch Game Awards have been leading for the Dutch game developers for many years. Unfortunately, the last Owls (awards) of the Dutch Game Awards were presented in 2017, but…. Today the Dutch Games Association (DGA) is proud to announce that this prestigious award show has been revived in collaboration with a team of volunteers from the Dutch games industry. This makes the eleventh edition of the Dutch Game Awards a fact. The show itself will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Derk de Geus, chairman of the DGA: “We are pleased that the Dutch Game Awards are back. The Awards are important to all Dutch game developers and a wonderful moment to show the best productions of the Dutch game industry at home and abroad. Even during a pandemic, the game industry remains productive, and many notable games have hit the market in recent times. We are all very curious about the entries and looking forward to the ceremony. We would like to thank the organizers of previous editions of the Dutch Game Awards for their trust and goodwill, and in particular: Roger ter Heide, Matthijs Dierckx, and Eric Bartelson.”

“The Dutch Game Awards have always been an event supported by the Dutch Game Industry. It’s great to see that I can pass the baton to an enthusiastic team and that the awards have now been assigned to the Dutch Game Association,” said Roger ter Heide, initiator of the Dutch Game Awards.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the corona measures, a scalable hybrid event was chosen this year. This means that there is partly room for invited guests on location, combined with a free official DGA live stream that can be followed online, together with an online network platform. Sound and Vision in Hilversum will support the event in various ways, as the start of a partnership with the Dutch Game Association.

Eppo van Nispen, director of Sound and Vision: “As the organizer of Dutch Media Week, we are proud to welcome this wonderful award ceremony and the game industry with all those creative makers at Sound and Vision. Games are an important part of our media landscape, the highlights of which we want to celebrate as much as possible. Thanks to the collaboration with Dutch Game Awards and the Dutch Game Association, this is now possible!”

In addition to the well-known awards categories ‘Best Game’, ‘Best Art’, ‘Best Student Game’, there are now also new categories. For example, the ‘Best Debut Game’ for new studios and the ‘Inclusion’ award for the initiative or person who has made a significant impact for inclusivity within the Dutch games industry. The complete category overview can be found on the website.

“This game award show of the best from the Netherlands in the field of games returns in a new style at the fantastic location Sound and Vision in Hilversum, where we bring the hardcore of the Dutch game industry together during the Dutch Media Week. Both digitally and physically, don’t miss this.” according to JP van Seventer, managing director of Dutch Game Garden and co-organizer.

All game developers residing in the Netherlands can enter their game for the Dutch Game Awards, if released between January 1, 2020, and July 31, 2021. Visit www.DutchGameAwards.nl for more details. The registration period ends July 31, 2021.
