JamToday is a pan-European network of universities, municipalities and regional support agencies in which Dutch Game Garden is invested as industry partner. We promote game design principles to create useful and meaningful educational games as well as designing the context (such as the classroom or curriculum) in which games can be most effectively used. Its goal is a systemic approach to sustainable implementation of ICT-enabled learning innovation.
JamToday aims to turn educators and learning professionals into educational designers with the help of game design knowledge and practice. Equally, we wish for learners to embrace game-based thinking and become ICT practitioners instead of merely users, with a corresponding ability to express themselves in videogames as a medium.
Each year, JamToday will set up game jams in at least seven locations across Europe. Every JamToday competition will focus on a particular theme and each year a pan-European conference will be organized around one of the main areas of application, which are:
- Improving ICT skills (such as learning coding skills or creating games)
- Adopting healthier lifestyles (such as healthy eating or changing antisocial behaviour)
- Supporting learning mathematics (such as sustaining engagement)
The Jamtoday network will be coordinated from Utrecht by the Dutch Game Garden (DGG) because of our extensive experience in the organisation and implementation of game jam competitions and related events.
