GLOBAL GAME JAM NL

About the Global Game Jam NL

The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event occurring annually in late January. It brings together 36,000 game enthusiasts participating through many local venues around the world. During this yearly peak in game development, game designers, artists, coders, students, teachers, industry veterans, and enthusiasts all come together to create working games within 48 hours. Fun, creativity, and teamwork come first during GGJ, but it has already resulted in many good concepts that have been further developed into complete games.

Since the first edition Dutch Game Garden has been co-organizer of the Dutch edition: the Global Game Jam NL. Within GGJNL, Dutch Game Garden coordinates between the participating locations, provides centralized registration as well as communications, PR, maintaining the website, and, if possible, goodies for the jammers like T-shirts, lanyards, and more. It is an ideal event to bring students from different universities together and it allows professional developers to discover new talent.

Global Game Jam NL takes place at several locations spread across the Netherlands: Amsterdam, Breda, Eindhoven, Enschede, Hilversum, Groningen, and Leeuwarden. We collaborate with multiple game development schools in the Netherlands to make the Global Game Jam a success. These schools are the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), the NHTV Breda, the NHL Leeuwarden, the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, and Saxion University of Applied Sciences Enschede.

The next Global Game Jam NL will take place on January 20-22, 2017. The event is a perfect opportunity to meet new people, be creative with video games, and share experiences. It also is an environment where every stage of game creation takes place, from designing, programming and testing – with the 48 hour time limit as a strong incentive for efficiency.
