INDIGO 2016 sees surge of visitors

The seventh edition of INDIGO has attracted more than 1600 visitors on September 27th, 2016, a record number of visitors on one single day. Players, developers, students, press, publishers, government officials, and others all made our games showcase a huge success.

INDIGO is Dutch Game Garden's showcase for the finest, most outstanding games by independent developers. The venue for INDIGO was once again the impressive TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Before the event opened, a crowd of eager visitors had already gathered at the entrance. 

A record number of games

Dutch Game Garden selected a record number of 38 games for INDIGO 2016. The games vary from brand new playable prototypes to finished products in all kinds of categories: entertainment games, applied games, multiplayer games, student projects, physical installations, and of course VR games. 

The game R.A.D by Thunder Games for example is a Virtual Reality game in which you defend yourself against heavily mutated animals. The game is played with an HTC Vive VR headset and two wireless control sticks that serve as guns in the game.

Lumière Noire from the French developer Paul-Etienne Bardot is a puzzle game in which the player builds different structures in a darkened room with fluorescent blocks. A camera recognizes the structures the player has built and the goal is to build a structure that is shown on the screen. After completion the player needs to destroy their construction and is rewarded with unique video animations.

A record number of visitors

INDIGO 2016 saw more than 1600 visitors on one single day. People from all walks of life, both young and old, students and games industry veterans attended the showcase. Throughout the day, the Dutch Game Garden team gave tours to press, officials, and students - some universities even sent multiple classes! 

For the first time, international developers were showcasing their games. Besides our local Dutch talent, there were games from Israel, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Austria, and France. We had many international guests as well: among others, there were representatives from Nintendo, Unity, Epic Games, and the IGDA.

The INDIGO Award

Like last year, visitors voted for their favorite game at INDIGO. Tied Together by Napalmtree Studios won the INDIGO Award, which included an all-inclusive trip to the Casual Connect event 2017 in Berlin. Tied Together is a 4-player platforming game in which you play as monsters that are chained together. The runner-up was Vector Flight from developer Jirre Verkerk, an endless space shoot-them-up game with customizable spaceships. Congratulations!
